Dhaka, May 5 (bdnews24.com) — The meeting between visiting US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and her Bangladesh counterpart Dipu Moni has ended.

The Bangladesh-US bilateral talks started barely an hour after the arrival of Clinton on Saturday afternoon on a 24-hour trip of the country.

She was driven to the Prime Minister's Office straight from the airport for the talks and a joint press conference.

Clinton went into a meeting with foreign minister Dipu Moni on reaching the PMO.

She arrived from China around 4:45 pm in Dhaka, but stayed inside the plane for some time.

Ambassador Dan W Mozena briefed Clinton in the plane as they did not have enough time to go to the hotel before reaching the PMO for holding formal talks with Bangladesh foreign minister, officials said.

Dipu led an 11-member Bangladesh delegation in the meeting that started around 6pm.

The Bangladesh delegation included foreign secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, home secretary C Q K Mustaq Ahmed, disaster management secretary M Aslam Alam, energy secretary Mohammad Mesbahuddin and Bangladesh ambassador to the US Akramul Qader.

Additional commerce secretary Amitabh Chakrabarty, ERD additional secretary Arastu Khan, PMO director general Paban Chowdhury, foreign ministry director general (America) Muhammad Abdul Muhith and a representative of the armed forces were also present at the meeting.

The US delegation included assistant secretary of state for South Asia Robert O Blake, US ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena and embassy's political, economic and commercial officer Pushpinder Dhillon.

A declaration on Bangladesh-US Partnership Cooperation is expected to be signed during the 24-hour visit of the dignitary. The US has similar partnership deals with India and China to hold regular dialogue.

The US secretary would leave for New Delhi on Sunday to round off her South Asia tour on May 8.
