POLICE HANDOUT
Josue E. Manrique, 35, allegedly burned his son with an iron after a dollar bill went missing from his dresser.
A disgruntled Illinois dad allegedly burned his 11-year-old son with a clothes iron after a single dollar bill went missing from his bedside table.
Josue Manrique, 35, was ready to snap even before he arrived home around 3 a.m. on Sunday, police told the Chicago Sun-Times.
“He’d been watching a boxing match where his fighter had lost and was having transmission problems with his car on the way home,” Joliet Police Cmdr. Brian Benton told the newspaper. He noted that Manrique also admitted he had been drinking.
Seeing that the dollar on his bedside table had vanished set Manrique off, police said.
He woke his slumbering 11-year-old son by hitting him with his belt, then switched on the clothes iron and burned the boy’s arm, hand, and chin with the scalding metal when the child refused to confess to snatching the bill, police told the Sun-Times.
The boy told a relative what his dad had done the next morning, investigators said, and Manrique was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child.
