Education board officials and teachers attributed introduction of creative question method in 21 subjects and initiating more teachers' training on creative question, special care on English and mathematics and students' reliance on textbooks to this success.
In 2001, when grading system was introduced, only 76 examinees got GPA-5.
As many as 14,12,379 students from 26,658 institutions took this year's SSC and equivalent exams. Of them, 12,19,894 passed and 1,92,485 failed.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the results at a crowded news conference at the ministry around 1:00pm yesterday. Earlier, he handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina around 10:30am.
In the past, most unsuccessful students used to flunk in English and mathematics, the minister told journalists, adding that the ministry arranged special training for the teachers on the two subjects.
Following the announcement, the results were available in schools, on education board websites and through SMS on mobile phones.
Jubilant students and parents, who had been on their nerves for the last few days, burst into joy as soon as the results were published.

NEWS CONFERENCE
Briefing the journalists, the education minister said, “In the examination, a positive change in all indicators has been seen.”
“We have trained around 3.25 lakh teachers of secondary level on creative question. It has enabled the teachers to simplify the lessons to the students, who understood the lessons better and did well in the test," he said.
“The main thing behind this success is that we gave special attention to the subjects in which our students mostly flunked, and now they are doing well.”
Admission process of the successful students will begin from June 12 and classes are likely to begin in July, the minister added.
